with 3.73's your jeep will probably feel like mine on 31's with a bit more power....if you can start in second then you're golden, I had huge clutch chatter attempting to start in 2nd. Up here....you won't need to worry about not having enough crawl. I need 33's though, I think I'm going to have too much crawl with 4.10's and 31's.

Joe, you need a 38 tooth gear. Rubis should have one. I have a extra 33 tooth, if you're interested.

Eric you need a 32 or 33 tooth gear. 4.56s, right? I'll trade you for your 35 tooth you most likely have now.
Oops. I have absolutely no idea what type of gear an Atlas uses. Disregard the above info.

i think I'll just make the jump to 36 gear to match 33's which are planned shortly. It'll be closer than the stock gear anyway. A Rubicon gear doesn't seem to be compatible with my jeep...Q-tec says that the TJ gears don't work with rubicons.

Well I had it dynoed in Seattle and set up with 35 or 37" tires I don't remember witch. I think I had the 4.56's then but might have been 4.10. It's been some time now. The Atlas II tail housing I have takes the same speedo gears as the 231. It's the 40" tires that is throwing it way off.

I'll check, looks like I do need a 31-32 tooth gear. I have a bunch around here just need to look for them all.

By the way I figured it Joe you need a 35 if you are going to 33's, Eric you need a 32. And well, I'm going to need a 39.

Sinc you changed your gears and not tire size use this formula:
(#teeth on old gearXnew gear ratio)/Old gear ration = #teeth on new gear
Now when you change tire size use this formula:
(Old tire size X Old speedo gear)/new tire diameter = #teeth on new gear

That is crazy. The highest I've seen is a 49 and that will work if you have 4.88's and 27" tires. Now if you meant 39, then I might be interested in your old one.

Be careful when replacing your speedo gears. I pulled mine out last night to swap it for a 41-tooth, and across the face of the gears, only about 1/2 of them are still intact. I believe I did not orient the gear housing properly onto the clip. I snapped a pic, but didn't upload it last night.
FWIW, I have 2 33-tooth and 1 36-tooth available if anyone wants to trade.

It's kinda beat up. Like I said, it got eaten because I didn't have it installed properly. It read accurate, but it's messed up.

Still haven't replaced the RR wheel seal yet, but it stopped leaking on me. The front door windows are now tinted. Replaced my off road lights on the roof with some 6" rounds. Got rid of the oval shaped muffler by ripping it off going through a ditch. Now have a 32" glasspack tucked up nice and close to the body and it sounds sweet too. Still debating if I want to add the 2" BB and try for 33" tires or if I want to stick with the current lift and go with 32" tires. What do you guys think?
From my father passing away, my brother got his other Jeep. 1998 Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited (ZJ). It now has a 3.5" Iron Rock suspension lift like the one I put on mine and 31" BFG trail rated tires. Geoff and/or Mark, here is the website that I got the lift from www.ironrockoffroad.com . Is there anything else you would recommend needing to get to go with it?
As for the Commando, I had it running for a while. Gave my step father the keys so he could move it out of the yard to mow and he turned the key way to hard. He twisted the ignition 180 degrees which didn't fair well for the cylinder or the wiring, so now I'm rewiring under the dash and installing a new ignition. I have a problem with the tires rubbing the upper part of the fender when hitting even small bumps in the road, so I would like to lift it even just a little bit, but not sure the best way to do it. It is leaf spring all the way around and they run under the axle. Any ideas? The rear axle also is offset to the passenger side about 1/2 or 3/4 of an inch, but everything looks alined underneath. Does anyone know this problem and how to correct? Well that's enough for now.
