My Truck is finally back together. Installed new front axleshafts and u-joints and a crossover steering system. The crossover set up was definately not bolt on.
I learned a few things along the way:
The 3" drop pitman arm that everyone sells for crossover steering doesn't work on late 70's 3/4 tons unless you have at the very least a 6" lift. But a stock one from a 77 ford van does.
A crossover set up on this truck requires "tunneling" the front crossmember no matter what the lift.
The front passenger side shock and mounts must be relocated behind the axle.
"Flat" high steer arms are junk.
The size of the small end of properly reamed tapered hole for a 1 ton tie rod end is .650"
1020R and 1020L 1 ton Dodge tie rod ends have the same taper as 1 ton GM tie rod ends and are readily available at Napa.
