Oh that looks decent...I was thinking that trailer would be too big for a Jeep(with matching ground clearance at least)....I might look into getting one of those bad boys down the line when I have a Jeep as badass to match. :p

SAV - removed tree branch from front wheel. I saved a 8" branch from FBNX creek and it's been riding in the front right wheel between the rim and the brake rotor since Friday. When I removed it, noticed the bearing has fallen victim to what that branch.

So axle swap tonight/tomorrow after 7pm since Friday night is partially spoken for.

Going D44 up front (although Carl's D60 is looking good right now) and welded 14FF in the rear.

B&M shift cable still waiting to be put in.

Installed used rear GM shackles from junkyard. It was nice to see 10 bucks and a little drive net me 1 inch.

New springs installed in front.
Old shocks won't fit anymore.
New shocks might be too short.

As it sits I have gained about 7 inches in the front but my shackles went flat and the frame is sitting on the spring right now. Looks like I'll be needing a welder to get right again.

here's a pic where you can see the spring sitting against the frame I'm not sure but I was thinking the frame should probly go up more once the shackle is moved forward. not sure though. The jack is kindof a comparison. It's the regular size one.

To figure out where your front mount needs to go, don't guess. Jack it up, remove the shackles and place a block of wood between the spring eyes and the bottom of the frame. Make sure that the block of wood is just a little shy of the combined height of your spring mount and shackle. From the looks of it, a piece of 4x4 should be pretty close.
This should allow your springs to settle to there full loaded length so that you can get your shackle angle right the first time.

So if I hang the shackle and measure from the bottom of the frame where the mount is down to the shackle eye I have 6.5". So I need roughly a 6" thick piece of wood? Measuring from bolt eye to eye is 4.5". It's becoming a little taller than anticipated and I may go back to the stock shackles. hmmmm

no you would go slightly thinner because you dont want your shackle at 90 degrees to your frame.

If your mount is 2" from the frame to the eye bolt, to get a 45* angle yes you need a 6" thick piece of wood.

2" for the mount
Sin(45*)=X/4.5"
X = 4.5"xSin(45*) = 4"
4"+2"=6" from the frame to the lower eyelet of the shackle.

Ever think about frenching the shackle mount into the frame to save you a couple inches? Not sure if that'll work very well with the arc of the shackle itself, and it might introduce a weak point to the frame that might tear while winching. Maybe just come an inch off of the frame and cut a notch in the frame for the bushing, reinforce it on the sides and top with some plate? I'd do what I can to keep the longer shackles for the increased articulation.

What's the law about frame height? Is it 26"? There was a toyota back in Juneau that had the words "right at 26 inches" on the tailgate, I assume for cops if 26" is the legal max

frame height laws are different for different sized vehicles. 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, and 1 ton Chevies all have different limits. I dunno about Toyotas - but 26 seems about right.

OK mister smarty pants. When my shackle is at a 45 degree angle it is 5" from the frame bottom. How far away is the bolt eye in the mount from the frame. Rolleyes

Hey go take a midol I wasn't rolling my eyes it was just a funny lookin' thoughtful face. Have you ever seen me roll my eyes? I think the part missing in the equation is the shackle length. maybe... but then again I've killed off the brain cells long ago that took college trig.
It only took me about 5" to get 45degrees. I dropped it down about 3/8" more to get a better angle but now I'm second guessing it because that doesn't sound like much but I looks good. Big Grin <---- that's my cheesy face.

sorry, eyerolling smilies get me punchy. :p Math is wierd when you're measuring eyelet to eyelet and you still have the bushing to deal with, and I forgot about that when doing my math. :p

It's all relative, and if you got what you wanted, that's all that matters. Big Grin

Anywho...

Just cleaned out all the dried grass from underneath, a ton got into the rear springs, control arm brackets and around the tailpipe/muffler :eek: so I'm glad I got to it before I drove it anywhere.

Topped off coolant and power steering fluid, checked rear diff fluid(leaked out when I pulled the plug...i guess a little goes a long way with a leak.

Pulled off the front fender flares, hammered the sheetmetal fenders back to near-vertical, sanded and primered where the paint flaked off...hopefully I can finish the job someday soon and cut off the flare mount flange and the front lights area...it seems on my driver's side the fender sheetmetal was cutting into the tire when it was at full stuff, I have two cuts all the way around the tire all the way through the tread...pretty scary stuff, I'll have to keep an eye on that tire.

I'd have washed it but my hose nozzle isn't working so I need to get a new one of them, and learn to disconnect the hose in the winter.

A new to my truck hot water valve that does't leak and a flushed cooling system. It is amazing the crap that builds up in there!

I should have gone with 5.13's instead of 4.88's or I need to get a 4:1 for my T-case
