Pink Turtle
#1
Another build I put on my plate. This will be a little different direction than my other builds though.

2wd toyota chasi. 1989
This build will be pretty basic, low COG, leaf springs, chevy drivetrain
I have a CUCV that will be donating the axles so it will be running 4.56 gears,
detroit in rear and posi in front. i believe the dana 60 outer stubs are 35 spline 4340.
planning on doing a disc brake conversion in the rear.
cross over steering
it will run a th350 tranny mated to a 208 t case
will be looking for a 4.3 EFI 6 cyclinder motor
waggy springs or 52 inch chevy springs all around. not completely set on this setup yet.
bobbed bed

much of this build will follow ryan towery's turtle build. on ak 4x4.

Oh, and it is for Amanda, hence the name pink Turtle. I am donating all the parts. for now I am collecting all the parts and fabricating what I can.

found a transmission and transfer case on Craigslist. $400
I do not know much about toyotas. might go the easy route on this build because it is cheap.

If you are going to stay Toyota, stop by the shop sometime and we can talk about parts.

help me brainstorm here for the drivetrain setup
4.3 v6 vortex +trans +t case
I bought an 89 toyota and 4.3 vortex last summer with a trans. and t case that came out of an s10 truck. I believe it was a 1998.

it is running a driver side drop t case. I would like to get a passenger side drop for chevy 1 ton reasons. Smile
4L60 Electric shift trans.
I have a 700 r4 rebuilt trans with a cracked t case.
looking for options/suggesstions.

my thoughts:
not sure if a np208 and its adapter coming off of a 700 r4 will bolt up with the 4L60-e. If I go this route I will have to figure something out with the transmission wiring harness.

The 700 R4 with 208 (needs the inners to be swapped out/ its cracked) is a pretty fresh build too [Image: frown.gif]
unsure if the 700r4 would work on the 4.3
if it will bolt up, the 700r4 trans is non electric.

or are there other suggestions? I have not mentioned (lets aim for cheap!)

Cheap would be to leave the 4.3 setup as is and run it. Why do a Dana 60 for that V6, are you planning on going with 38's and a doubler?

I also forgot, check the back of your 4L60-E, mine had a 5 lug bolt pattern used for S10's. mine was a 5sp and a little newer so yours could be different. I ended up getting a conversion made for a Dana 300 so I could still run the stock pasenger drop Toyota axles and 35's. If you go with the 700, after you figure out the flex plate and torque converter you will have to get your computer re-flashed so it thinks it has a manual trans and not a auto, this is what I did for the 5.3 in the VW.

The doubler will be for the Tragdor build Smile
I decided to be greedy and not go doubler on the pink turtle. I already have dana 60 4.56 axles with posi in front and detroit in rear. I want to build this low and wide. Amanda's biggest fear is rolling over. I am building it to accomadate that fear.
I was planning on finding a manual s10 computer Smile I just found that info last night!

The 4L60-e and 241 or 700 R4 and 208 would be just enough gearing in 4 low with 38's. I might even go 35's just to get it started. I would like to go with really skinny/tall tires.
simple before crazy on this build. 4L60-e with a t case. talked to patrick on ak4x4 and he recommended using a V-Series t case (241) off a late 80's /early 90's blazer (still solid axle). That would allow me to use the chevy axles I have.

I will have to check the transmission next time I am out at Jon's place.

Do some research on your computer before you waste the money on a new 5sp computer. More then likely you will need to get it reprogrammed anyways to delete 1. Rear O2 sensor, 2. Disable Security system, 3. If you use a different transfer case with a different pulse generator you will need the computer adjusted to read the new pulse for proper signal. Some delete this or don't run this all at all, but I wouldn't if you want to have a good running engine through all speeds. If you run the stock setup then all that stays the same.

That is the plan!
from what I read online the v series t case is set up for the same pulse.
I found that the 90-91 Blazer/Jimmy/Suburban had a passenger drop NP241 with VSS.
