Advent Wrote:Ignore the haters. The H2 is a piece of crap and Hummer has to deal with that reputation in the H3.

I'd look at H3 if I wanted a new 4x4. I happen to like IFS in certain situations, and people who are dead-set against it are living in the past. It's a much more refined vehicle than the current Rubicon, but you can still get a stick, lockers, and 4:1 transfer case.

If you're looking for something in that range you might also look at the FJ Cruiser. Despite Toyota of North America's best effort they've managed to turn out a pretty darn good rig.

The minute I found a lifted IFS toyota on 33's couldn't do what I could in my stock Jeep on 31's ONLY because of lack of articulation, I knew I would never drive an IFS vehicle on a trail like the ones we have. I like the H3, but I'll stick with the Jeep. It just seems to me sometimes that you're the hater, always doing your best to put down Jeeps for some odd reason or another. There's a reason Wranglers are still around and the FJ40 isn't, until only recently. Why is that? I don't really know, I really don't care, but you seem to an awful lot.

Nothing like bragging about what you own to justify your decision. Even better when you can combine it with a personal attack on some elses choices and character.

we seem to be getting off topic... but what does advent drive? Also.. why is it then when someone posts a pic of the truck or asks about a certain kind of truck if seem they're only looking for people to encourage them? The second someone disagrees/doesn't like what you're doing you get to call them a hater. Well you asked... and guess what, not everyone is going to like your decision. If I post pics of my sploder I guarantee you someone won't like it.. and that's ok. I won't post something like that without expecting negative feedback. So for those of you calling everyone who doesn't like the H3 a "hater". Stop and think of how narrow minded you're being... expecting only positive replies and bashing anything else. :passifier:

I think the H3's arent bad looking I like them more that the H2 (and I dont like those) I was never a hugh fan of the H1 or humve whatever it was I just didnt like the bulkiness of them. But back to what I was saying if someone lifted one with like a 8" lift and sittin on 37's I'd drive it.

Underachieving piece of crap...

Proof?.. have you wheeled one?... have you driven in one... Have you even sat in one?.....

How can you compare it when you know nothing about it..

And I don't mean to single ya out.. some others are guilty as well...

I don't think they are bad looking. They have a lot of potential. Can't see why you can't mod it out like every other vehicle we have in AO. If there is a will there is a way. :allrighty: If you want one, go for it. Cool

you know you all have convinced me... The H3 is the greatest thing since the invention of 4x4. Hell the army needs to start replacing the H1 with it. Can't wait to see it on the trail... we'll put it up front to make sure the lesser rigs can follow it. There is that what you wanna hear?

That's the funniest smily I've ever seen!!! Only problem with IFS is it cost more to modify. The new Grand Cherokee's IFS have 13% more wheel articulation than its predecessor. But a lift will cost you a coupl-a G's. Same with the H3's.

I'm sure the quotes about the powerwagon are right, but I'm not open-minded about p/u's. No sense in buying one and suffering with the horrific EPA unless you need to haul stuff all the time. That's what they're made for. But, to each his own.

I'd say the same thing if I drove a Honda Civic or a Dodge Ram Pickup. It wasn't a personal attack at all, just an observation of what I see repeatedly.

For those of you who think a vehicle with IFS cannot wheel, or that the H2 is incapable of offroading, watch this video.

Stock H2 Wheelin'

I've never met the guy who made the video, but these are his thoughts.

"I offroad my H2 whenever I get the chance. I moved a size up in tires, and bought a HD tie rod, but other than that she's stock. Everywhere I go Jeeps think they are the only offroad capable vehicle out there. I see no more than 12 videos of stupid Hummer drivers that break something or get stuck somewhere anyone could've if they drove any other vehicle like they drove the Hummer. The Hummer does not make a man invincible. Nor does it allow him to do something no one else can do. I'm out trying to have fun with my H2, and that's all. I love following a lifted and built Jeep up the trail, just to get through where he got stuck and or rolled. It's all in how you drive it. I think IFS even requires more skill at getting through. I'll admit I have gotten stuck, but I found out that the other vehicles I wheeled with that day couldn't get through where I got stuck either. There are other options. I've had a few Jeeps myself, but wanted something comfortable, that could do the go anywhere and do anything without spending thousands of dollars on mods. Did I pay more upfront, yes. Am I glad I did, YES. What makes me laugh is that I built up a 97TJ to handle 37" tires. I had to upgrade the axles, transmission, transfer case, and of course had to put a long arm lift kit on it. After all that, it still rode like a tank, and got worse gas mileage than my H2 currently gets. Go figure huh? This video is dedicated to all the Jerks who think Jeeps are the only way to offroad."

Enjoy!

Warning, this video is about 15 megs.

Impressive clip...and good point: EVERYONE gets stuck. That's how we learn, and how we figure out what our next mod will beSmile They did glorify one aspect of the Jeeps though. If a TJ/YJ/CJ/etc. gets stuck, you can actually push it out. If a Hummer gets stuck, better call CE! I use to wheel my stock Wrangler in Turkey. When it got stuck in the mud, I'd leave it in low, 1st gear, get out and push. When she got traction and started rollin, I ran to catch up, jumped in and grabbed the wheel. Oddly enough, all pleasant memories.

H2s are cool, I've always like them. Funny thing is, they didn't mention they have to be refilled with fuel after every hill. The obstacles they showed were good for long wheel bases. It's all how you wheel them. Do you realize how many spare gas cans you would have to take with you? They only get 12 miles per gallon on road in 2wd. Imagine in the muck in 4 low? They do have great drive trains though. :allrighty:

Most vehicles with 37" or 38" tires barely get 12 mpg. BTW, an H2 doesn't have 2wd, it's AWD, with a low range.

The whole point of this thread wasn't to see what was better, it was to see what we all thaught of the h3. You get your answer and don't like it. If you want to know what we think is better offroad, post up a thread of "what is better offroad". NOT 'What'da'ya' think of the H3".

Keep it on topic and don't take it personal. Just remember that the person responding (if you never met them) could be an 80 year old man wearing pink panties and drives a volvo... you just never know...

Still, where do you store all the extra fuel for them?Smile

Don't be so quick to jump on people. I thought the show was great and I've always liked the Hummers, all three of them. Just don't feel like spending that much money.

That extra fuel is in case you get stuck on the trail or get lost, not just to get through it. Also, you don't want your engine dying on you when you're submerged over your tailpipe in mud/water.

This is an off-road forum.. I dont think he's asking about H3s for entering it into a show... He asked for our opinion on them and everyone says they're crap , doo and hideous... Okay, looks are all personal preferences...

Have you wheeled it to know it's crap? Have you driven one on or offroad to see capabilities on either or?... I doubt you have... so your opinion is based off it's looks.

Many many people have tested the H3 offroad and it's quite capable. Woody gave a really good account of one. While IFS is good for some people, I wouldn't prefer it, personally. Maybe I'm biased, maybe I need to actually drive one, give me the keys, I'll test it out, sure...maybe Gene's will let me take theirs down to S. Cushman so I can figure it out for myself....but until then I'll stick to my guns and say that flex and articulation keeps all 4 tires on the ground, and that's how you move. If you dog-leg, better have a locker. Otherwise you're shaking your tail in the wind.

Personally, I like it...smaller gas bill than my Expedition with 1.3 cu feet more of interior space...2x the horsepower of a new Jeep...100K warranty...more "trail worthy" stock than any of the new jeeps...

Sounds to me like the perfect commuter/weekend recreationalist vehicle...plus room for the dog in the back:allrighty:

Smart ass...

You know my point...

You guys have nothing.. You said.. It's IFS... You drive IFS..

Other than the IFS comment.. you got nothing on it.. You don't like the looks.

It's locked in the rear and has a limited slip in the front...
Decent clearance....

Sounds like a better platform than most the rigs on this forum that start with.

A Toyota with a crappy IFS lift can't do what a stock jeep can? Wow, go figure. A vehicle with a cheaply modified road-tuned suspension versus one that's off-road-minded isn't going to be a contest. There ARE good IFS lifts but few people buy them because they're expensive. The same could be said for a good long arm kit.

I wasn't trying to put down jeeps at all with my statement. The Rubicon is a mildly modified version of a vehicle designed in the mid-1990's. The H3 was designed very recently. There really shouldn't be any argument that the H3 is a more refined vehicle, and the people buying them want that. Not everyone likes a solid axle in a daily driver.

And that's all besides the point. I said "In certain situations". When I want articulation, I want a solid axle. When I want high speed and hard landings IFS wins hands down.

As for FJ40's...They aren't around because Toyota redesigned them and didn't bring the replacement here. The reason? Toyota designed their vehicles for work, jeep for play. Completely different market segments. You won't find many wranglers overloaded daily in a mine and you won't find many 70-series cruisers driven to high school.

Some people just don't want a jeep. Everyone is entitled to their own preference. A Rubicon is an excellent rig but it is not for me. It just seems like a huge number of jeep people don't understand that concept.

I suggested the FJ Cruiser as a decent alternative to an H3 that is far less likely to get the person's **** size attacked by idiots. Is an FJ Cruiser for me? No. Is an H3 for me? No. But I won't rule them out for other people simply because they're not what I desire.
