So here I am sitting in my chair destroying Google and the BLM website for information to help plan a few trips for the family this summer. We plan on taking a few short trips (leave Friday come back Sunday) and then some longer ones during our Block leave in July ( Valdez will be turn around point ). The catch is I cannot for the life of me find "legal" trails for us to use our ATV's and sideXside on. We have a Toy Hauler that is self sustaining ( as long as I have gas and water Cool ) so hook ups and all the other things are not required. Where the hell can I find detailed information on trails that are accessible from campgrounds etc?

This site kicked my +++ as well http://www.alaska-trails.org/cgi/otg/trailguide.cgi?searchterm=ATV&submit=Go!&type=region

Tried this: http://www.blm.gov/ak/st/en/prog/recreation/activities/trails.html

Am i just having a case of the Monday's and missed what I was looking for?

There are trails here and there....not many that I can think of that are official. Banner creek by Birch, military land south of Delta...both off the Rich and AK highway, Fish lake by Summit, Swede lake off the Denali, running the pipeline, Rainbow ridge, Eska.....there are several other local trails that you just have to know.BLM in AK does not wnat you on their land...afterall it is not ours.As you go south, you run into large tracts of Native land which is technically private.

Wife wanted to take a short trip to Quartz Lake and trying to figure out if it is worth taking the ATV's with us. That is just one of the spots we are thinking of.

Alaska Mapper.
look for the rs2477 trails

those are the historic trails that were originally mining trails. the state has to jump through a ton of hoops to get those closed. they are supposed to be indefinitely open to the public to travel. however make sure you cross reference the RS2477 trail identification # with the DNR website. it will tell you the history and what the original usage of the trail was (and supposedly still is). The information sheet/data will also tell you what regulations the trail has (weight, type of vehicle, when you can travel it)

alaska mapper takes some time to find the correct map as you can select different layers. its a slow process but you can look up some pretty cool trails. they even give you GPS coordinates Big Grin

I did some searching for you through the map. it has gotten a lot easier and more user friendly. which is great! I see a few trails out there you may want to look into I will PM you the rs2477 trails in the area you were interested in.

Check out the Outdoor forums You can hook up with others as well. Eureka past Glenallen is an awesome place. Easily spend a week out there. There are a lot of trails. But locals sometimes don't like to give up the info easily. there are many trails down the Richardson towards paxson.

There is a winter trail heading East from Quartz. Not sure how far you can get in the summer.

I assume the trail in the summer turns into some marsh land or other natural obstacle.
