Park service hosts meeting on ORVs
FAIRBANKS â The National Park Service is hosting a public hearing Friday in Cantwell to discuss a temporary closure for off-road vehicle use by subsistence users in parts of Denali National Park and Preserve.
The hearing will be held at the Cantwell Community Center from 4-6 p.m. Similar to the past three years, the park service plans to temporarily close portions of the area to ORV use to protect sensitive park resources from adverse impact while providing reasonable access to subsistence resources, according to a press release from the park service.
The closure applies to areas added to the park as a result of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. The discussion will include areas that would be affected by the proposed closure as well as the proposed exceptions to the closure. Maps of the area will be available.
For additional information on subsistence permits contact subsistence manager Amy Craver at 683-9544. For questions or additional information on the public hearing, please call the superintendentâs office at 683-9581
